Essential New Testament

Discover God's Story in the New Testament: Apr-May 2015

All of the stories of Scripture fit together to show us that the Bible is really one grand story of God working to redeem His creation. The Old Testament gives us a clear picture of how sin and death have corrupted God's good creation and how great the need for redemption is. But the story is far from over. This session is a 6-week journey through the entire New Testament. We'll see how God unveils His ultimate plan of redemption, how His kingdom grows beyond Israel to the whole world, and how his word continues to speak into our lives today. Whether the Bible is new to you or you know it well, this is a great chance to discover the essentials of the New Testament.   Boost is a short-term, mid-week offering designed to provide a spiritual boost by engaging in study and discussion together. This session will take place at our main building every Wednesday, April 15 through May 20, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm

Week 1: God With Us (Apr 15, 2015)

For centuries God's people waited for the Messiah, the one they believed would deliver them from their enemies and restore the kingdom of Israel. But when the time came, God surpassed their expectations, sending His own Son in human flesh to deliver the whole world from sin and restore the kingdom of God over all creation.

Week 2: The Lamb of God (Apr 22, 2015)

God's people had long celebrated their rescue from Egypt unaware that the Passover ultimately foreshadowed God's final act of redemption for all people. Jesus' life and ministry led him to this point. His final week aligned with this great celebration to show how he would fulfill all the work God had been doing to win His creation back.

Week 3: The Resurrection and The Life (Apr 29, 2015)

At the right time in God's perfect plan, Jesus died. His death fulfilled the Scriptures and met the requirement for the cleansing of all sin. He was buried. And on the third day, Jesus rose to life. His resurrection signaled the defeat of sin and death, and paved the way for any who would believe in Him to enter into God's eternal story.

Week 4: A Revolution of Redemption (May 6, 2015)

Before Jesus ascended to His Father, He promised His followers a Helper. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came powerfully upon the apostles, ushering in a new age for God's people. With His indwelling help, the church was empowered to carry the message of redemption to the familiar and unexpected alike, even through persecution.

Week 5: To the End of the Earth (May 13, 2015)

When Jesus took hold of a Pharisee named Paul, He turned one of the gospel's fiercest persecutors into one of its most passionate proponents. Paul's mission took the good news throughout the known world. He not only built up the church of his day, but left inspired instruction that God would use to shape His people for eternity.

Week 6: All Things New (May 20, 2015)

As the gospel continued to spread, the church grew, but along with it, opposition and persecution. Jesus' call to the first century church remains through the ages: hold fast to faith and endure. A time is coming when all evil will be destroyed, redemption will be completed, and all of creation will be made new in God's eternal kingdom.
