Project Be
Are you interested in "going to church" or simply "being the church"? We hope both. From Sunday, August 29 thru September 5, Flushing Community Church will be calling you to BE the church by putting your faith into ACTION! Our Mercy Team is looking for projects that we can go out into the community during that week and make a real difference! We need your project ideas and we need YOU to BE the church! See Pastor Terry or Bob Coe with questions and ideas!
Project Hungry - Mobile Food Pantry
(pictures) Nearly 50 volunteers ranging in age from 4 years old to nearly 70 met at the Westwood Height Park and distributed 10 pallets of food to anyone in need. It was a great day to BE the Church and show God's loving kindness to this very hard hit community. Thanks to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and everyone who came to receive! Those of us who served received a huge blessing by serving!! Thanks to Flushing Community Church for BEing the Church!!
Project Refuge - Place Of Miracles
(pictures) This home is not in great shape. A family that has lost their home will be moving into this home very soon but it needs a new roof, new drywall in the kitchen, a complete bathroom overhaul and more. God has provided miracles for this family ...
- a friendly roofer has given his services for free!
- the roofing supplies have been paid for by a donor through Project Be!
- a new furnace will be installed by a local heating & cooling company for FREE!
Project Restore - Water Damage Repair
(pictures) This home suffered with a leaky room for too long. The roof has been repaired but now the hard work of getting the inside in good shape begins. This involves taking down some drywall and repairing water-damaged studs. Work continues on this project; so far we have completed demolition of the old damaged drywall and mildewy framing, rebuilt the exterior wall and replaced its window, insalled new insulation in the wall and ceiling, and replaced the ceiling drywall. Way to BE the church to a family that needs a healthy place to live right in our own community!
Project Oak
(pictures) We have a property on Oak Street in Flushing that we currently use for storage. This property needed some serious outside cleanup. On Thursday, 15 high school students and 3 adults working in the midst of the rainstorm cleared out the overgrown ivy that was taking over the back yard. Most of the students were from Flushing High School's "Interact Club". All survived, but the number suffering from poison ivy is yet unknown... :-(
Project Hope
We were contacted by a family who just purchased a home from the Land Bank. The home was in bad repair and needed some real TLC. On inspection, Pastor Terry found a great family in need of some hope ... plus some drywall and misc supplies to finish some electrical and plumbing issues. The challenge was to give this family what they needed to finish the drywall work, the electrical and plumbing ... plus help them pay off their $400 Consumers bill. Well, the people of Flushing Community responded and all of this was taken care of!!! Do we serve a God of miracles or what? In addition to these needs that were mentioned, a member of our congregation offered the use of a gas range if anyone was in need ... are you kidding me? That need was never made known publically but God took care of it anyway. Pictures will be posted of the delivery of all these items to this family! God took care of them, supplied their need! ... (continued)
Project Children
Chronically hungry children in our schools - potentially 100 students; we will provide food for these children every weekend this year. More details coming in September
